Integral Eye Movement Technique Training
Integral Eye Movement Techniques (IEMT) is a rapid sustainable change-work approach that has been developed by Andrew T. Austin out of the work of Steve and Connirae Andreas’ model of Eye Movement Integration. IEMT uses the metaphor “creating change in the blink of an eye”, this is to highlight the speed at which change can happen.
IEMT focuses on working with problematic emotions, unwanted responses, trauma related issues, incongruences of identity and the physicality of undesirable states. At the end of completing the weekend modules on Integral Eye Movement Techniques, students will receive an attendance certificate.
IEMT is a way of working with persistent undesired emotions and unproductive states, the techniques explore how we learnt to feel the way we do and misalignments in how we perceive ourselves, allowing changes which enhance emotional wellbeing. The training teaches how to use specific techniques to adjust these unhelpful patterns. The aim is to introduce resources and skills inside the problem state, and bring the client more into the present moment, which enables them to stay out of past negative experiences.
IEMT can be implemented content free without the need to go into the details of a person’s story, so it can be ideal for a person that may be concerned or embarrassed about disclosing the events that have happened, and IEMT can be easily used alongside other professional skills that you have learnt.
No prior knowledge of IEMT is required before attending the weekend course, you will be provided with a comprehensive training manual, and you will gain hands-on experience of numerous techniques within a supportive online environment. The theoretical grounding that you will take from the training will help you put these skills into practice. The maximum size for the group is 12 students.
This workshop is aimed at those wishing to attain practitioner certification or as a part of Continued Professional Development, and IEMT is CPD Certified with The CPD Certification Service.
During the training you will be taken step by step through the sequential stages that can be used during IEMT sessions by IEMT trainer Anthony Roberts.
On the first day of the training (Module A), we will be looking at the following: –
- How the person learnt to feel this way.
- The way that IEMT is structured.
- Developing skills with the effective use of eye movements that is linked with a progressive elicitation strategy, basic and advanced patterns.
- The use of IEMT for Trauma (A PTSD Model which currently has ongoing research)
The second module is a week later, this is to allow you to practise your skills away from the screen and gain some experience with taking a personal volunteer through the techniques learnt in module A, doing this in-person so that any questions about this can be answered before building on what you have already learnt.
The second day (Module B), the 3 key areas that you will be introduced to are: –
- Working at an identity level
- Stuck thinking
- How our perception of our physiology can influence our state.

How IEMT is different from other eye movement work?
Both EMDR and IEMT have similarities to the axis of movement used during the eye movements, but the methodology and objectives behind each differs, there are numerous techniques that use eye movements including Eye Movement Integration Therapy and Brain Spotting and all are unique in their approach.
IEMT has at its core The Patterns of Chronicity which are taught during the training. These are 5 primary patterns that appear commonly in many issues that seem unresolvable, eliciting how the person learned to unintentionally behave this way allows for swift progress in resolving issues.
