Understanding Mindfulness Based Inner RePatterning™
In a Mindfulness Based Inner RePatterning™ session, we create a state of mind/body which is called the Safe Zone or Safe Place. In this state, the parasympathetic nervous system is in control of the mind/ body. When the parasympathetic nervous system is in control, the body is in regeneration/ repair mode.
Switching the Mind/Body System into Repair and Regeneration Mode
To switch the mind/ body into a repair and regeneration mode of operating we do three things:
- Tap on the Thymus Point
- Belly or Abdominal Breathing
- Access Peripheral Vision
1. The Thymus
“Thymus gland serves as the link between mind and body. It is the first organ to be affected by mental attitudes and stress. Hence, activation and stimulation of the thymus is an essential, primary foundation for achieving and maintaining positive health.”
Dr John Diamond
The Soul, Energy and Life Source
The thymus is a gland that is located under the chest bone. It is about 2- 3 inches down from the point where the collar bones meet. The word, “Thymos” stems from the Greek language where it means, soul/ energy and life source.
Thymus Gland and the Chakras
The Thymus gland has been associated with the heart and throat chakras (energy centers), as it is located between the two.
The heart chakra is associated with the emotions of inner peace, joy and love. The throat chakra is associated with communication and the inner voice.
Tapping on the Thymus
Thymus tapping is commonly used in energy therapy to increase energy levels.
The Vagus Nerve
The vagus nerve is one of the most important nerves in the body. It is also known as the 10th cranial nerve and cranial nerve x. The vagus nerve carries information from the body to the brain. It also controls a range of reflex responses within the body. The heartbeat is regulated by the vagus nerve. Muscle movement and breathing are also controlled by the vagus nerve. It is also linked to the healthy functioning of the digestive tract.
Stimulation of the vagus nerve by pulses of electricity is currently used by the medical profession to treat epilepsy and “untreatable” (1) depression. It is also being studied as a treatment for Alzheimer.
Mindfulness Based Inner RePatterning™ and the Vagus Nerve
In Mindfulness Based Inner RePatterning™ we gently tap using our finger pads on the thymus point. The vagus nerve runs throughout the body including the thoracic area. Many of the structures within the body have the capability to generate electricity (piezoelectricity) if mechanically stimulated. Tapping on the thymus point with the finger pads should generate electricity and, therefore, act as a natural stimulation of the vagus nerve.
In an Mindfulness Based Inner RePatterning™ session, we slow tap on the Thyme area of the chest. Entrainment is a natural phenomenon. Using the phenomenon of entertainment we can cause the mind/body system to synchronise with the slow tapping. This can bring about a sense of relaxation.
Notes
(1) “Untreatable” means depression that does not respond to standard medical interventions, typically drugs.
